To restore and protect Montana's wetlands and their inhabitants.

This Is Our Story

Wetland ecosystems are some of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. They support native plants and animals, and provide services such as flood control and water purification. Unfortunately, wetlands are also some of the most threatened ecosystems. Born from a love of Montana's natural spaces, Montana Wetlands and Waterfowl seeks to bring much needed attention to these vital systems.

What Makes Us Special

Science-based conservation

As professionally trained and practicing scientists, we use research as the method to understand and create positive change in our environment.

Community Network

Our history of working with industry, government agencies, academic institutions, and the conservation community has afforded us invaluable connections throughout Montana.

Emphasis on waterfowl

We seek to highlight waterfowl in our work. Waterfowl and their habitat are often overlooked and underappreciated in our mountainous ecosystems.

"These protected wetlands and uplands for waterfowl also have a positive and direct effect on humans via flood and erosion control, water purification, opportunities for nature study and outdoor recreation, and open space."

- Guy Baldassarre, Ducks, Geese, and Swans of North America, 2014
